A mix of soothing sea-foam greens and wave-crest whites wash part of the dining room at North Square Oyster in ocean-inspired hues, an excellent hint at what’s being crafted in the kitchen. True to its name, North Square Oyster brings fresh, regionally sourced seafood to Boston’s North End, and since it only opened two months ago, you’re among the first to discover this new gem. That being said, the lobster roll already has a loyal following. It comes two ways: hot or cold. The cold lobster roll is smothered with mayo, celery, and chives, while the hot lobster roll features brown butter. Another popular option is the lobster and oxtail Bolognese, which comes in half and whole servings. Its house-made rigatoni swims with the lobster and oxtail, plus parsnips, ricotta cheese, and rosemary. Of course, with a name like North Square Oyster, guests can also expect an impressive raw bar.
Blackbird Doughnuts is a gourmet doughnut shop offering unique flavors along with classic favorites made with as many natural and locally-sourced ingredients as possible. Their doughnuts are baked on-site from scratch using brioche dough for an airy, fluffy texture, and then topped with a variety of house-made glazes and frostings. For an interesting, savory experience, try the Everything Bagel Doughnut, which is filled with whipped cream cheese and topped with toasted garlic, onion, sesame, and poppy seeds. Other favorite flavors include Peach Jam Bismarck, Cold Brew Coconut, Lemon Berry Swirl, and Triple Chocolate. In addition to doughnuts, Blackbird also serves soft-serve ice cream, ice cream sandwiches (made with any doughnut of your choice!), doughnut cakes, and coffee and tea. The eatery boasts a large glass wall that offers a full view of the kitchen, white subway tile, and a birdcage chandelier. CC-BY-SA-2.0/Flickr Javcon117*
