Memorial Day Weekend in Boston: What’s Going on Around One Greenway

Memorial Day is the time of the year when all Americans remember those in our armed services we have lost. It’s also a time to get together with family and friends and kick off summer.

Staying in the city this weekend and looking to map out things to do? Don’t worry, we have you covered with our guide of ways to spend Memorial Day weekend in Boston.

Massachusetts Military Heroes Garden of Flags on the Boston Common

What better way to honor U.S.A’s fallen heroes than by taking a walk through the Garden of Flags on the Boston Common? Each of the 37,000 flags planted at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial represents a Massachusetts service man or woman who has given his or her life protecting the freedoms of this country. The flags will be planted in the Common on Wednesday and will remain there until Monday. A name reading will begin at 10:30am on Thursday.

Veterans Memorial Park in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood

This Saturday also marks the 70th annual Memorial Day services at Veterans Memorial Park in Fenway. These annual services honor the fallen heroes of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The service starts at 11am so, for those interested in attending, be sure to head down early to get a good spot to see the ceremony.

Cirque du Soleil’s Kurios

If you’re looking for a more entertainment-focused event, check out Cirque du Soleil’s Kurios at Suffolk Downs in East Boston, which opens on Thursday. Known for their breathtaking acrobatics and death defying aerial displays, Cirque du Soleil is sure to keep the audience on the edge of their seats until they jump out of them in applause. Tickets for Kurios start at $35 and can be purchased through www.cirquedusoleil.com.

Boston Calling

Taking place in Boston’s City Hall, this three-day musical event sports big name acts such as Vince Staples, Sia, and Odesza and is a great way to see some of your favorite acts and sample local food trucks in downtown Boston. Gates open Friday at 6pm and Saturday and Sunday at 12pm. Single day, weekend and three-day tickets can be purchased for Boston Calling through www.bostoncalling.com.
