SoWa Sundays

One Greenway residents looking for a Sunday Funday don’t have to go very far. For 12 years, Boston’s South End has been home to the South End Open Market @ SoWa, a collection of artisans, food trucks, farm-fresh products and funky vintage finds. With dozens of fruits and vegetables in season and perfect summer weather, be sure to get there before the season ends on October 25.

Here’s a game plan to help you spend your Sunday at SoWa:

Brunch: Shopping on an empty stomach is unwise. Grab a light bite at Gaslight, a French brasserie a few doors down from the action at SoWa. Brunch service starts at 9am, so you have plenty of time to linger over an omelet and catch up with friends before SoWa opens at 10am.

Arts market: Home to all things handmade, visit this section of the market first. Whether you’re looking for funky pet treats or toys for your furry friend, a t-shirt for yourself, or a unique gift for a special occasion, you’ll likely find something that’s just right.

Hit the vintage market: Treasures you didn’t even know you needed abound at this indoor section of the market. Everything from vintage luggage to midcentury modern furnishings to accessories await. Keeping your trip short? The vintage market recently became a year-round fixture in the South End, closing only for Easter and Christmas, so you can always visit later in the year.

Grab a snack: Chatting with vendors and toting your purchases around works up an appetite. Check out the food trucks to sample something new. (We love Mei Mei’s Double Awesome)

Shop the farmer’s market: Meet the farmer who grew the produce and made all of the other delicacies in front of you at the SoWa market. This includes vendors from across New England. Also, if culinary inspiration strikes, you can supplement your farmer’s market bounty with staples from the nearby Whole Foods.

Patio drinks: No Sunday Funday in the summer is complete without outdoor cocktails. Cinquecento recently opened a patio bar so go grab a glass of rose, enjoy $1 oysters from 5-6pm (during the summer months) and people-watch as the sun goes down on the greatest Sunday Funday you’ve had in recent memory.

The South End Open Market @ SoWa is located at 460 Harrison Ave, Boston. The markets are open Sundays from 10am-4pm through October 25th
